Kristi and Brian – A Turner Hill Wedding

So, the 2012 season is off to a fantastic start and I’m excited to start posting some of this year’s beautiful weddings- but not before I share this awesome wedding! Kristi and Brian are incredibly fun to be around.  We had a blast when we met for their engagement session last summer.  They’re goofy, sweet and kind.  Not surprisingly they have equally awesome friends and family who really made me feel like I was part of the party.  I’m really excited to share these images from one of my favorite venues, Turner Hill Mansion in Ipswich, MA.  I hope you enjoy!!

See what I mean about being goofy?

I met the girls on Newbury St. where they were getting their hair and makeup done in the salon.  I think this picture says it all…

Kristi being helped into her dress:

One of the great things about this wedding is I had the opportunity to shoot with two good friends and super talented photographers Eric Laurits and Eric McCallister.  Eric Laurits was looking for a chance to tag along at a wedding and try out some new techniques on a new camera.  Uhhmmmm…. yeah.  I’m a big fan of his work and had to share a few of his shots.  Here is one of Eric’s from before the ceremony:

The flower girls gather in foyer before the ceremony.

I love this one.  Brian and his groomsmen trying to sneak peeks at the guests and girls in the back.

Another killer Eric Laurits capture.  Kristi and her dad working out some nerves before the walk down the isle.

A quiet moment on the altar.

Brian’s smile is infectious.

Brian and his father share a moment of congratulations as they walk down the isle.

With the daylight slipping away we rushed to take a few pics outside before the party kicked into gear.

I love seeing the two families interact.  The dads seem to be hitting it off.

The tent at Turner Hill looked stunning.  Thanks to Eric McCallister for grabbing the shot on the right.

I love toasts.  I’ve said that before – so I thought I’d share a series this time from the toasts.

The absolutely lovely first dance.

Kristi and her father played a slideshow of pics of the two of them through the years… talk about emotional.  But they still managed to smile and joke despite the waterworks.

Guests were treated to a fantastic fireworks display.  Eric McCallister hustled out onto the golf course to get a shot of Turner Hill with the fireworks going off.

I stayed close to the guests and caught a few reactions during the display:

A fitting end to the night.

Thanks so much Lisa!!

Lee & Chuck – A State Room Wedding

Only a few 2011 weddings left to blog before 2012 begins!  Lee and Chuck were married (and partied) in two of the most gorgeous and quintessential Boston spots, The Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston, and the State Room.  This was one of those weddings that was fun from start to finish.  Both families were so welcoming and kind – I felt right at home.  The girls started the day getting ready at the Boston Harbor hotel, while the guys got ready in the couple’s apartment.  I pulled some of my favorites from the day – I hope you enjoy!!

Lee’s room overlooked the Boston harbor:

How can you not love veils?

I was joined by my good friend Doug Levy who tagged along with the guys:

The guys worked out a little nerves on the greenway – tossing a little football – then perhaps having one or two cocktails ;)

Meanwhile the girls continued their preparation:

Lee looked stunning as she left for the church:

Seeing her friends for the first time:

Now, if that’s not an adorable look at her future husband….

A few favorites from the ceremony:

Doug caught this great side view of the couple leaving the church together:

Loved this view of the church and the newlyweds.  Gives you a real sense of the space.

Lee and Chuck were chauffeured back to the State Room in a grandfather’s Rolls – driven by Lee’s brother:

A quick stop by Post Office Park for some formals:

With dwindling light we headed outside the Harbor Hotel for a few quick shots in near darkness!

Lee and Chuck had some gorgeous details.  Beautiful flowers and place cards:

AND candy apples!!

The cutest first dance:

Doug’s great catch from above:

Lee’s father giving a quick toast:

And the reaction to the brother’s toast….

Getting his groove thang on…

The band invited the couple up to help fill out the vocals;)

A final dance and kiss to end the evening:

Lee and Chuck – thank you so much for inviting me to share your beautiful wedding!!  Also – special thanks to Doug Levy for his help!

Didi & Zander – A Boston Public Library Wedding

My 2012 “summer” season officially kicks off this Saturday!  I’ve had a fantastic off-season, but I’m definitely ready to kick things into high gear.  I thought I’d be appropriate to finish off the last of my 2011 weddings and show a few winter ones as well before the new season starts.  So consider this: “The Week of the Blog.”  Honestly, I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to share this gem of a wedding.  Didi and Zander are simply awesome.  I knew this even at our first meeting when we decided to meet at Burdick’s in Harvard Square to have some hot chocolate.  The wedding ceremony took place at Christ Church in Cambridge, right off Harvard Square and the reception was held at the Boston Public Library.  It was a completely beautiful day from start to finish and I couldn’t have enjoyed working with these two any more.  A few weeks before the wedding, we met to do a few engagement pictures (to get the rust out, so to speak), and you can see how cute these two are:

So without further adieu, here’s some of my favorites from the day – sorry there are a lot more than usual, but I couldn’t resist!  We’ll start with a few from getting ready.  Remember these things?

I love capturing the bridal party getting ready.  It’s always a favorite part of my day.  There’s always a few moments of solitude and peace amidst the go-go-go nature of the wedding day.  Here, Didi gets a few finishing touches on her makeup.

Didi’s father looking on during the makeup:

My good friend Mark Davidson joined me for the day and captured the guys getting ready:

Zander and his brother:

This was Didi throughout the entire day… smiles from ear to ear!

Christ Church:

Mark grabbed this shot of the guys before the ceremony:

Didi and Zander decided to see each other for the first time before the ceremony to help get some of the portraits done.  I love this one of Didi creeping up behind him…. and the grin on Zander’s face.

Happy!!!

Didi and Zander have a few moments of quiet before the guests arrive:

Mark grabbed this great shot:

Christ Church preferred that we not go past the last pew, so Mark and I worked to get some great different angles during the ceremony.  Mark grabbed this great moment from the balcony.

The exchange:

Newly married!!

Making it official:

After the ceremony everyone travelled over to the Boston Public Library.  If you never been there, you definitely need to check it out. It’s a stunning building.  The courtyard in the middle makes the perfect setting for some portraits.

The couple customized “Didi and Zander” library due-date cards for the guests to find their tables.  So cute.  Mark and I spent a few minutes shooting the tables and details of the library. I loved the way they chose to decorate the tables with the lamps.

The guests were ushered in and served an amazing meal before the dancing began.

After dinner the couple shared their first dance as a newly married couple.

Didi and her father couldn’t have been any cuter together.

The party begins:

Didi and Zander excused themselves for a bit and came back with a fresh wardrobe:

Couldn’t help but crack up at this moment…. having a bit of trouble with the cake!

Mark’s great detail:

I hope you enjoyed seeing these as much as I enjoyed sharing them!  Thanks so much to Didi and Zander – also special thanks to Mark Davidson for his great shots as well.

Published – Robert C. Jackson Book!!

If you’ve spent any amount of time with me, you probably already know I’m part of the Jackson Five. Not THAT Jackson 5 – my Jackson five.

That’s me rocking the Smurf shirt and mandals.  I’m the youngest of five boys which means I was the baby of the family… simultaneously spoiled and beat up in equal parts. I can honestly say that my personality reflects a bit of each of my brothers (for better or worse). I am extremely proud of them. It just so happens that two of my bothers are crazy good artists *I’m biased – but they’re seriously awesome* (see Daniel Jackson *grey socks* and Robert C. Jackson *tallest teenager*). Last fall my brother Bob approached me about doing some photography for a book that was being written about him.  Of course I jumped at the opportunity.  He wanted to juxtapose some images of him working in his studio next to his images to show a bit of his process.  It’s so cool to actually see it in print now.  Cool because I’m so proud of Bob and his career – and also cool because it’s one thing to see your work in a magazine – but a book is that much cooler!  Bob is actually having an opening and book signing for a Boston show this Friday (April 13th) at the Arden Gallery – so if you’re looking for something to do on Friday, check it out.

Here’s a few images from my day with Bob – and a few images of the layouts in the book.  Hope you enjoy!  PS – if you’d like a copy of the book check Bob’s website (he’ll sign it for you!)  I’ve also attached a fun video that Bob created at the bottom of the post.  It’s a time lapse of him during the few weeks that it takes to complete on of his paintings.  It’s a fun watch to pause it and see the different stuff going on in his studio.

Check out the time lapse of Bob painting The Feast:

Here’s a link to an extended cut that he did where he provides some voice over explanations.

AWESOME! Love the paintings and your images totally compliment everything that the book is about! Congrats on having such a terrific family and story!

nedjackson - April 11, 2012 - 3:39 pm

Thanks J! I’ve got to give Bob the credit for being an excellent editor and having a great vision of how to use the images as well!

nedjackson - April 11, 2012 - 3:42 pm

I should add that there are few gigs as good as getting to hang out with your brother… talk art and beer – and get to make a book ;)

David - April 11, 2012 - 10:05 pm

Awesome Ned! Looks like talent runs in the family.

Eric - April 13, 2012 - 8:59 am

Ned, the book about Bob is amazing, as are your images from his studio. Well done Jacksons!!!

Monika & James – A Hellenic Center Wedding

I hope everyone is having a great spring!  I’m certainly starting to get that twitch in my leg… the restlessness that comes just before my next season begins.  So I thought it only appropriate that I actually finish blogging 2011!  Monkia and James had one of the most beautiful days of the year last fall.  The ceremony was held in Manchester (by the Sea) and the reception was held at the Hellenic Center in Ipswich, MA.

I pulled a few of my favorites from the day – I hope you enjoy!

Monika as her mother pulled the veil over her head for the first time:

Smiles all day, especially from the moms!

Monika and her father enter the church.

How cute is this?

The adorable flower girl:

During some portraits, Monika dropped her bouquet by her comfy reception flips.

The first dance:

This is what happens when the DJ wears a hat…..

Thanks so much to Monika and Jim for including me their day!  Also special thanks to Doug Levy for his help as well!  Check out the slideshow below:
