Alyssa & Ryan – A Stunning Backyard Wedding

Slowly (yes… very slowly) working my way through some of last year’s weddings…. I know you’re going to love this gorgeous wedding. Alyssa and Ryan’s wedding was equal parts beautiful and fun. What I loved best about their wedding is that it offered up a juxtaposition of two seemingly conflicting styles (city and country) that worked so amazingly well together. The day started as a big city affair. Both the girls and the guys got ready at the Taj Hotel in Boston, and headed directly to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End.  If you’ve never been to the Cathedral – it’s exactly what you’d expect – grand in both size and beauty.  After the ceremony we quickly retreated to Alyssa’s childhood home where her parents set up an unbelievable party in their idyllic backyard.  The tent was situated among some the property’s beautiful old trees.  Inside the tent, the couple opted for a less formal feel of rustic barn farmhouse tables from New England Country Rentals.

I hope you enjoy some of my favorites from the day!

Alyssa’s dress was a stunner:

Excited flower girls sharing secrets in the bride’s suite.

Last minute adjustments:

Some gorgeous details.  Ryan’s boutonniere was photographed by James Federico who joined me for the day:

James got to the church a bit early and caught this great moment of the girls ascending the staircase.

See what I mean about the Cathedral?

It’s a pretty magical feeling when you get to talk to your soon-to-be wife for the first time on the day of your wedding.

James had this great angle on Alyssa during the ceremony.

Loved this catch from James as I worked the center isle.

Back at Alyssa’s house we were treated to some unbelievable light…. even if we had to go through a GIANT field of poison ivy to get there (whoops).  Thankfully – I don’t think anyone got it too bad!

We had a bit of extra time to play a bit with the bridal party.  The light, the barn, it was all too perfect.  Not to mention a willing bridal party!

I absolutely loved the look and feel of the party.  So beautiful – rustic but elegant.

While I was shooting some shots of the gorgeous details, the flower girls were playing tag in the tent.

The first dance:

The tent was so perfectly nestled into the property.

A few speeches from the brothers:

Brothers have a way of getting the best of you.

Alyssa and her father.

An unexpected ride over the crowd:

Definitely a perfect image for the party:

One quick embrace at the end of the night:

Ryan and Alyssa retreated into the house for a quick change of the dress and were escorted out with this stunning sendoff:

And of course – check out the sldieshow:

Thank you so much Alyssa and Ryan!  Also – special thanks to James Federico for his help!

Julie & Nat – A Peabody Essex Museum Wedding

It only takes one quick look to see how fun Julie and Nat are to be around.  Both of them were smiling ear-to-ear all day long.  Add to that the fantastic colors these two chose and it made for a very fun day for me!  Julie, who is a high school photography teacher, has a fantastic eye for detail and definitely a fun sense of style.  It was a blast to shoot such fun and vibrant colors.  The party was every bit as fun as the colors in this wedding!  Their ceremony and reception both took place in the Peabody Essex Museum.  The ceremony was held in the East India Hall and the reception in the museum’s atrium.

Here is a quick inspiration board I pulled together for their wedding.  See what I mean about the colors?  And check out that cake!

Julie getting ready.  Liking what she sees!

Finishing touches:

I was joined by Doug Levy for the day and we were lucky enough to be able to capture this moment from both directions.  I really liked Doug’s angle from the hallway.

Just before the ceremony we had a few moments to catch a quick bridal portait.

LOVE this!

If you haven’t been to the Peabody Essex Museum it’s worth a stop, if not only for the architecture.  I had a quick moment to do some fun bridal portraits in the garden just outside the museum.

How cute is Julie’s dad?

The happy groom (taken by Doug):

I’m pretty sure these two could have been married in the middle of nowhere and still would have had a blast.

The couple was framed by a beautiful chuppah and these magnificent windows.

Guests shadowed by the great bowspirit figurehead:

Julie and Nat’s guests waived ribbons to celebrate their newlywed status.

The museum is indeed a photographer’s playground.

The gorgeous atrium.

I thought these were great little guest gifts – a small glass tabletop picture holder with different images from their engagement session we did together.

Certainly a grand space for a dramatic first dance:

Doug’s bird’s eye view from above.

Julie and Nat during the toasts.

Doug grabbed this great dance shot:

At the end of the dance these two were literally glowing.

Julie and her father.

A late night portrait with a little inspiration from the museum’s artwork:

Thank you so much Julie and Nat for allowing me to take part in your day!  Also a special thank you to Natalia from the Peabody Essex Museum, who is quite possibly one of the easiest people to work with.  Thanks to Doug Levy as well!

Published – The Knot Boston

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season and a wonderful New Years!  It’s a fun time in the studio as we start to wrap up the loose ends of the 2011 season and start to work on some gorgeous studio sample albums and other products.   I’ll have lots to share in the near future.  I wanted to extend a congrats to Martha and Graeme - their beautiful wedding was given a four page spread in the latest issue of the Knot Boston!  Congrats guys!  I also want to give a quick shout out to Paul at Boston Uplights who did all the lighting for the event and was somehow left out of the vendor listing at the end.  Paul was nice enough to share one of his images (the room spread – which you can actually see me in if you look closely) for Martha and Graeme and the editors chose to include that image in the article.  Thanks Paul!  I can’t say enough about how nice and professional Paul and his crew are to work with and how their lighting really makes the rooms pop.  Definitely check them out!

WOOOOOT! :)

Yay you!

Erin & Jeff – A Falmouth Wedding

It’s always a tremendous honor when you photograph a friend of former client.  But what about when a bride and groom are the friends of THREE former sets of clients?!  Then it’s just a party!  Erin and Jeff are two of the most easy-going (and cute) couples you’ll meet.  Their Falmouth wedding took place at the Flying Bridge.  Surrounded by close knit friends and family, their wedding was a perfect representation of all the things they value in life: friends, family, pets & the BEACH!

I dare you not to smile while looking at these:

Erin and her mother:

Here Jeff and groomsman Ryan (Ryan married April in 2009) toast as they make their way over to the Flying Bridge.  Thanks to James Federico for this image!

As the dress goes on:

April (who’s married to Ryan from above and I was lucky enough to photograph back in ’09) helping button up the dress.

Jeff’s niece looks in awe at the beautiful bride:

This was Erin all day!

This look says it all:

James grabbed this great shot of the dog during the ceremony.

Another great one by James!

True love.

As you can see – I have a tough job.

The adorable first dance.

One of my favorites from the toast:

Thank you so much to Erin and Jeff for including in their beautiful day!  Also – special thanks to James Federico for joining me as well.

Be sure to check out the slideshow as well!
